Gnaw Bone, Indiana

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gnaw Bone is an unincorporated community in Brown County, Indiana.

The name of the town "Gnaw Bone" comes from the French settlement in Indiana. It was initially named after a French town, Narbonne, which is located in the south of France. But the English settlers at the time translated phonetically what they thought they heard, and they ended up spelling it "Gnaw Bone."

Gnaw Bone is situated on state highway 46, between Nashville and Columbus. It is known for its flea markets and is recognized as the "flea market capital of the world", as it has one flea market for every five residents.[citation needed]
