If someone knows a list of the pollinators for this plant, that could be an interesting addition to the page. The variety that grows "wild" in my North Florida yard has a very unusual presentation of its pistils and stamen.

It appears as if G. rothschildiana is a synonym of G. superba var Rothschildiana Shyamal 04:53, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Cultivation

According to http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/CropFactSheets/gloriosa.html it is in wide cultivation in India, the only commercial substance that I could find that was obtained is colchicine which is a pharmaceutical. Is colchicine used so widely that make it necessary to cultivate G. superba in big quantities? --198.54.202.82 23:10, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] National Flower

Hi

The article fails to mention that the Flame Lilly is the National Flower of the Republic of Zimbabwe. It also varies from region to region in said country, with a more brown coloured flower being found in the south (Matabeleland region), a purple or yellow flower being founf in the eastern highlands (Manicaland region) and the red and yellow found in the north (Mashonaland regions) there is also red flower that is found in various areas. One would expect the soil to have something to do with this variation, but we had both red and red and yellow flowers in our garden in Bulawayo (in the south). It is a protected flower in the country, and you would need a permit to obtain one in Zimbabwe.

Thank-you for allowing me to add my tuppence.
