[edit] de Tocqueville

The article mentions "Alexis de Tocqueville Society". Is this the same as Alex De Tocqueville Institution? Common Man 09:52, 3 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] worst example

This is the worst example of a vanity page that I've seen. It needs some serious attention. I regret I'm not qualified to do this. [11:13, 21 February 2006 210.86.47.166 ]

[edit] More Information

Other artist on this Encyclopedia have information about their albums and singles, with charts positions and certifications, I really want to see Gloria complete discography, not just read what certifications gets her albums on US, I also care on UK, Italy and others countries, please give us more informations about her tours, concerts, awards, albums and singles, just for give an example, try to do Gloria like Madonna, I was saw all the things that I've told you, and with her everything is complete, no question about it, but with Gloria, I still have the same questions and problems [06:02, 17 April 2006 4.232.108.37]

[edit] Link error

On the "Cuts Both Ways" album page, the listing for the next album, "Into the Light", is correct, but the link takes you to a Chris DeBurgh album of the same name. I do not know how to correct this myself, or I would do it. [21:28, 22 June 2006 Qrc2006]

Fixed. Wasted Time R 04:36, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

I removed a link that used to say it was to Famous UofM Alumni, but was in fact pointing to a sports ticket affiliate site. I could not find a page at the University site that listed famous Alumni, or I would have redirected it, as it would have been an interesting link. - Ian

[edit] Other Notable Perforamnces

Gloria was not the first to perform twice at the Super Bowl. Carol Channing performed during the half time shows of Super Bowls IV and VI. Among other artists performing at more than one Super Bowl are Paul McCartney, Sting, Justin Timberlake (once with *N'SYNC, and once with Janet Jackson), Mary J. Blige, and Nelly. --Paploo 22:41, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Estefan vs. Estéfan

[copied here from two user talk pages]

Regarding your edit to the article Gloria Estéfan, please do not replace articles with blank content as this is considered vandalism. It looks like you wanted to create a redirect instead. Cheers. --PeruvianLlama(spit) 20:45, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Estéfan is not the correct accentuation of that family name in Castillian, it should be removed actually, but i cannot do thatGaudio 07:28, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

The best way of dealing with an incorrect (yet still popular) spelling is to create a redirect to the correctly spelled article. So Gloria Estéfan should redirect to Gloria Estefan. And if it were a popular misconception of how Gloria's name were spelled, or even a popular typo, we could have Gloria Estephan redirect to Gloria Estefan as well. Redirects are cheap, and if it helps even a few potential Wiki-readers find what they're looking for, then it's worth it. Cheers! --PeruvianLlama(spit) 07:34, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, that's up to you guys, according to the accentuation rules it's Estefan and not Estéfan, and actually i had never seen that surname accentuated like that, but if you'd rather keep it, it's OK.Gaudio 07:59, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

The word is most definitely NOT accented. In Spanish, words that end in n are accented if and only if the emphasis is on the last syllable, e.g. camión. Words that are accented on the second-to-last syllable (like Estefan) are accented if and only if they end in a consonant other than n or s. Albertod4 21:36, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article move

I don't know whether her name uses the diacritical or not, but whoever did the changeover a couple of weeks ago badly botched it, as it was a copy-and-paste rather than a real move and thus lost all the article history. Wasted Time R 04:34, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Accordingly, I have restored the article under Gloria Estéfan. If someone wants to do the move, fine, but do a real move. Given Wikipedia's "move" limits, it would probably have to be done by an admin. Wasted Time R 11:43, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

I submitted the article on the admins' request for moves list, but the list is way backlogged and nothing has happened yet. Wasted Time R 19:08, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Move is done. Next time please follow the procedures listed at Wikipedia:Requested_moves#Steps_for_requesting_a_page_move. Thanks. Joelito (talk) 01:27, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
I thought I had. But in any case, thank you! Wasted Time R 01:49, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Photo

I'm sorry but I'll say it. It's really not a flattering photo of Gloria. Are public domain photo's hard to find of her? Betty :)

[edit] "Fleeing Cuba"

The section fleeing Cuba seems to be focused on her father in the 1950s. Only one sentence of the section is about the actual fleeing of Cuba. 69.117.255.178 00:27, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
