Gloria Williamson (born 1943 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American singer and was notable for being an early lead singer of an early incarnation of famed Motown girl group Martha and the Vandellas. Having sung with Annette Beard in another group, they formed another girl group with residents Martha Reeves and Rosalind Ashford becoming the Del-Phis. The group recorded for Chess Records issuing the single "My Baby Won't Come Back" in 1961 (with Reeves in the lead). In 1962, the group signed on to Motown's Checkmate label (after that label was sold from Chess) and recorded the ballad "There He Is (At My Door)" and "The Camel Walk" for Tamla with Williamson in the lead. When both songs failed to chart, Williamson left the music business leaving Martha Reeves as the remaining lead singer of the group eventually changing their name to Martha and the Vandellas and becoming one of the most popular groups in Motown during the 1960s.
