Globol Extreme

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Globol Extreme is a sport created in Australia, based on five-a-side soccer; it is a high-energy game played in a theatrical setting which combines the skills and athleticism of soccer with the theatrical power and entertainment appeal of a major rock concert.

From what is known about Globol Extreme, it is delivered through both celebrity All-Star teams and international Talent Search events in a reality TV style program (similar to most other talent search shows) to establish an international league. Contestants will compete for places in a team. The selected team will then be the representative team for that Nation and will compete against other teams selected in the same manner.

Unlike traditional soccer, Globol Extreme is played inside a specially designed court: “the Tank”. The Tank is approximately the size of a basketball court (100’ x 50’). It is completely surrounded by 14 foot transparent walls. The walls are a feature of the game by allowing players to bounce the ball off them, to increase the time that the ball is in play thereby maximising the action.

The Tank’s playing arena has interactive features such as the lateral moving goals (that move from side to side) and blowhole where soccer balls are injected into play. These elements add to the entertainment value of the game by testing the skill of players. Furthermore, the rules have been designed to make games as entertaining as possible.

The rules were designed to make Globol Extreme as entertaining as possible and enjoyable to watch. All Globol Extreme games are contested using five man teams. This will keep players fresh whilst maintaining a fast-paced game.

It is rumoured that Globol is currently in negotiations with several organizations interested in purchasing franchises.

There has been some publicity regarding Globol Extreme, but it has mainly been through specialist soccer trade publications. The whole sport is managed by an organisation called Globol Entertainment, based in Melbourne, Australia.
