A feature which is unique in historical literature , atleast by Indian authors if not in the world, is the parallel analysis of various civilizations in the same frame of time - to compare the 'civilized' Roman kings watching their subjects being gored to death in the colliseum with their queens;

Its impossible for Sonia Gandhi to have subsidised this book when it was first published- so many decades off!!!!Anyway, whoever subsidised the book is an irrelevant detail]I am surprised how long such an error could remain.

It shud have been written "The book is published by Oxford and currently being subsidised by Sonia Gandhi." and i dont feel that it is irrelevant becos it is one among the many things which illustrate the dynastic nature of the Nehru family.

I agree but that does not have anything to do with the book as such. It can be taken up elsewhere in some political section.
