Glenn Schwartz

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Glenn Schwartz first came to the attention of rock music audiences as the original guitarist for The James Gang based in Cleveland. In 1969, Schwartz, who had been voted one of the top five electric blues guitar players in a national DJ poll, left the James Gang to join Los Angeles based Blues band Pacific Gas & Electric, and in 1970, scored a national top 20 hit with the song Are You Ready?.

In 1971, Schwartz became a Christian and left Pacific, Gas and Electric to join a pioneering Gospel rock group The All Saved Freak Band, which was the musical evangelistic arm of an Ohio religious group, The Church Of The Risen Christ.

Schwartz recorded four albums with the Freak Band before leaving the group in 1980.

Glenn's talents were no secret to Jimi Hendrix, who asked Glenn to play at his last birthday party. Janis Joplin jammed with him at San Francisco's famous Fillmore West. He counted Chuck Berry and Eric Clapton as friends. Jimmy Page, Duane Allman, Carlos Santana, and Jeff Beck were admirers.

Glenn plays every Thursday night at Major Hoopples, a rustic, blue-collar sports bar, located on the West Bank of the Flats in Cleveland, Ohio.
