Glenn Ponder

Glenn Ponder was a character played by Steve Brown in the UK comedy series Knowing Me, Knowing You (1994).

A former jazz synthesiser musician in Norwich and Ipswich wine bars, Glenn was given his big break by the show's host Alan Partridge, as he was put in charge of the show's house band. Every week, Ponder's band appeared to change, or at least change its name: the bands were introduced as Chalet, Debonair, Ferrari, Bangkok, Savoir Faire, and Lazarus. At the end of the fourth episode, supposedly filmed in Paris, Ponder is fired for partying with the crew the night before and deliberately not inviting Alan along. However Ponder returns in the next episode, as Alan accepts uncomfortably that he must remain while the dismissal is examined in an industrial tribunal. At the start of the sixth and final episode of the series, Alan happily announces that Glenn has dropped his legal action. In this show, Glenn admits he is homosexual and has a boyfriend - much to the chagrin of Partridge.

Glenn Ponder also returns — minus band but with a tinny synthesiser — in Alan's Christmas Special the following year. He is accompanied by his lover Andy, played by Tom Binns. It is revealed that Andy bought Glenn a silk kimono for Christmas.
