[edit] International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

The International Baccalaureate Diploma programme has been newly introduced to Glenforest in 2004, in which the first group of IB students will graduate in the May of 2007. Glenforest was the first public school in Mississauga to offer this program.

[edit] The Enhanced Program

The Enhanced Program was designed to allow students in the region to work together. Glenforest offers courses which are designated as enhanced, incorporating the lesson plan from the non-enhanced class as well as most of the students from the regular classes.

[edit] Sports, clubs, and traditions

[edit] Glenforest athletics

The symbol for the school is the Gryphon. Glenforest has a Gryphon Mascot who is known as Griffy to Glenforest students. At most home sporting events, Griffy is there, as well as at any major school event, such as Spirit Days and school-wide fundraising days (for example, the Terry Fox Run). The sports teams currently offered at Glenforest include: basketball, cheerleading, cross country, golf, swimming, volleyball, badminton, skiing, archery, baseball, cricket, soccer, softball and much more. Connected to the school is the Glenforest Pool, a public pool operated by the city of Mississauga. In addition to the pool, there are two gyms and a weight room at Glenforest.

Glenforest has many rival schools, most notably, Applewood Heights Secondary School, Philip Pocock Catholic School, Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary School, Rick Hansen Secondary School, and The Woodlands School.

[edit] The Talon Times

The Talon Times is the Glenforest school newspaper. Run by a team of about 20 students, the newspaper is published about 7 times a year, ending with a 36-page Chronicle (which summarizes the year's events). Each article contains world news, news about specific school events, advice for students in life in attending university or college, a comic and the zodiac.

[edit] The Oracle

The Oracle, founded by the students at Glenforest Secondary School, is an example of the work done by students. After gaining self-sufficiency within one issue of publication with advertisements from the local community, the Oracle is continually expanding.

[edit] Mosaic

The Mosaic show is a cultural talent show with acts ranging from Indian dancing to Pakistani dancing (and sometimes Kashmir border dancing). Although the majority of this event is comprised of South Asian performances, there are several performances from other parts of the world (most notably East Asia and the Caribbean).

[edit] Talent Show

This event is similar to Mosaic, but different in that it is run as a competition, rather than just a collaboration of performances from different parts of Southern Asia as well as China. The Talent Show is usually run late in the year (near the end of the second semester). The audience votes for which the act they like best. The winners of the talent show are announced later on and win prizes of varying natures.
