[edit] Career

Adams started recording as a vocalist in 1961, but later became well-known for his keyboard playing. Member of The Soulmates, The Reggae Boys, the Hippy Boys, The Upsetters, The Heptones and The Pioneers.

Adams also made some of the original recordings under the name Augustus Pablo before Horace Swaby adopted that identity. [1]

Adams is probably best known for his stint with The Hippy Boys, who recorded with Bunny Lee. During this time Adams did some of his most memorable work accompanying Slim Smith.

The band was recruited by Lee Perry to tour as The Upsetters, in the wake of his hits Live Injection and Return Of Django and subsequently became Perry's studio band.[2]

When The Wailers came to the studio to record, Adams did much of the arranging and composed the song Mr. Brown.[3].

When The Wailers parted company with Perry in 1971, taking The Upsetter's rhythm section with them, Adams decided to relocate to the USA, where he has lived ever since, mainly producing.

After many years in the studio, however, Adams has recently returned to live performance, touring the USA and Europe with The Slackers, and also playing occasional NYC shows with the Jammyland All-Stars.
