From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A '"Glee Club"' is a choir, historically of men but also of just women or mixed voices, which traditionally specializes in singing short songs ("glee"). Glee clubs originated in England, but are no longer common in Britain; modern glee clubs are primarily found in North American colleges and universities. Glee in this context does not refer to the mood of the music or its singers, but to a specific form of English seventeenth and eighteenth century part song, the glee. Most American Glee Clubs are choruses in the standard sense and no longer perform glees.
