[edit] History

The Glasgow Tigers were established in 1946, previous to their inception there had been other speedway teams operating in Glasgow from 1928.

Initially the club was based at the White City Stadium, Paisley Road West, Ibrox and ran there intermittently until 1969 when they moved to Hampden Park.

In 1973 the club moved to Coatbridge and became the Coatbridge Tigers, riding at the Cliftonhill Stadium. There the Tigers remained until they moved to Blantyre in 1977 and re-introduced the name Glasgow Tigers.

The Tigers rode in two stadiums in Blantyre, firstly at Blantyre Sports Stadium and then from 1982 they moved to Craighead Park.

In 1987 the Tigers moved to Derwent Park, Workington and although they started the year named as Glasgow, they were renamed Workington Tigers for the rest of the season. This was the only time in the team's history that they have been based in England.

In 1988, the club managed to return to Glasgow when they moved into the Shawfield Stadium, Rutherglen. Here they stayed until 1998, with the exception of the 1996 season when the ill-fated Scottish Monarchs rode there in top flight speedway.

In 1999 the club moved to its current home at Ashfield when the speedway track replaced the old greyhound racing track.
