Gladesville is a suburb on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Located approximately 8 km from the Sydney central business district, the suburb is split between the Local Government Areas of the City of Ryde and the Municipality of Hunter's Hill. It gives its name to the Gladesville Bridge, a Sydney landmark that links the North Shore to the Inner West.
Gladesville is serviced by a commercial district centering around Victoria Road, the main road through Gladesville, and by a small shopping center (Gladesville Shopping Village) located off Cowell Street. A number of restaurants are located within the commercial parts of Gladesville, and serve a variety of foods including Thai, Indian and Italian. A local favourite pub is the Bayview Tavern.
As of 2005, the current Australian Prime Minister John Howard's local office in Bennelong is located in Gladesville. Gladesville is also the origin of the leading Northern District Times newspaper; The Weekly Times was established in 1921.
Gladesville prides itself in some spectacular harbour views, tranquil bush settings and riverside beauty. It remains a popular avenue for young professional families, with numerous opportunities of success and potential in local public and private primary schools. Modes of transport include both the ferry and bus, with main bus services running along Victoria Road. Connecting routes include the 536 (Gladesville to Chatswood) and 539 (Gladesville to Woolwich).
