Gjon Markagjoni was an Albanian tribal leader who rebelled against the Albanian government. In 1921 with the support of Yugoslavia, he founded the Republic of Mirdita and served as its president during its short existence. He was used as a tool by the Yugoslavians, who sought to annex Albanian territories.
