[edit] Giygas battle in Mother 2 and Shigesato Itoi

The game designer, Shigesato Itoi, has said in an interview that the battle with Giygas in Mother 2/EarthBound is the result of a traumatic experience he had as a child after accidently walking into a theater playing a violent rape film. This should DEFINATELY be included in a section of this article as well of mention of Giygas in the original Mother game. Buzda 12:39, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] The bikini woman in Threed

I remember there being a townsperson somewhere -- Twoson, maybe -- who mentions that nobody has ever seen Giygas and that, for all he knew, Giygas could be a beautiful woman. I also remember that when Ness and Paula first enter the zombie-controlled Threed, they see a blonde woman in a black bathing suit. And you keep following her, and she eventually leads you into a trap. Right? Am I crazy or did this actually happen in the game? Anyway, I always thought that woman was some early glimpse at Giygas in disguise. I know it's speculation, but does anybody else think there's something here? I don't remember the comment on Gigyas being a woman, but I know that the event in Threed does in fact happen. It's never explained who that woman is. While it's possible that she's Gigyas, it's just as likely that she's some sort of evil spirit. We'll probably never know for sure. --Agent Aquamarine 11:17, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
There is a line said by one of the "sneaky guys" (with the one-corner smiles and hats) that essentially amounts to "I heard Belch is working for Giygas, who might be female." Nothing more than that, though... 152.163.100.200 02:08, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

-The sneaky guy's speculation that Giygas might be female may come from the fact that the zombie bikini girl is in town, and she's different from the other zombies. She might be Giygas, but that's unlikely. She may be a more powerfull and smart zombie, or a puppet controlled directly by Giygas.
-The game gives some more material for Giygas' body form speculations: near the end of the game, when about to enter the last (purple) area of the game, if you look closely to the cave's opening in the wall, you'll see what looks like a humanoid monster's head. You can see it in the following link (spoiler alert: this is starmen.net's area map of the area right before the final area) [1] (make a zoom on the top left hand corner, on the opening in the wall).
This of course implies that the final area is Giygas' intestines, or nerves at BEST, then you go all the way up and... Yuck. --201.68.131.155 03:46, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

This line was added by someone (PsychoJosh?) at some point: ...and is one of the most powerful villains in video game history.

This is clearly a non-NPOV statement, and one I don't even agree with. It shouldn't be here. Please don't edit it back in. Spamguy 02:59, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Non-NPOV=not a neutral point of view, so it's not redundant. NPOV is not synonymous with POV. Unless there is some kind of official proof that shows Giegue as one of the most powerful villain, there is no way to show it's true. I doubt any of us can even name every video game villain. You guys misinterpreted me. I wasn't trying to be all fanboy-esque, like "OOOH GIYGAS IS SO COOL AND GODDAMN POWERFUL AND HE CAN BEAT SEPHIROTH BLAH BLAH BLAH". I'm saying it based on what I know about Giygas; he became so unbelievably powerful in his evil that he turned into the literal definition of the word "evil", as explained by Pokey. Add to that the fact that beating him by conventional means is hopeless and that he has the ability to shred the reality of entire universes asunder (he is the "universal cosmic destroyer" after all) and you have one of the most powerful villains in video game history. Don't give me any of that non-NPOV crap because I wasn't trying to sound like one of those stupid Sephiroth fanboys. PsychoJosh 03:08, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

I would have to say he is one of the most powerful villains ever; you cannot kill him by conventional means, and the characters of Mother 1+2 do not have enough power on their own to defeat him. PeanutCheeseBar 18:00, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

"In this form, Giygas can only be destroyed by using Paula's previously useless Pray command several times...". The "pray" command was never useless. It did all kinds of random things, helpful as well as harmful, which made it unreliable. Though some players might consider it useless because of its unreliability, this is a POV. The pic in this article's headline say it's Giygas' final form. It isn't, it's his second form. His final form has several of the faces and is more purpleish. Should the pic be changed?

[edit] writing about fiction

Some of this stuff needs to be tidied up and written in a different tone. An article should not read like a story or a game walkthrough. A few examples of quotes which are leaning towards too much of an in-universe style are the following: "It's a happy ending." "However, foreboding news arrives; his father calls, telling him that something has come up..." "Once Pokey has had enough, he reveals Giygas's true form by turning off the Devil's Machine, and explains it was a device used to contain Giygas's incredible evil power." There was never a "Giyig Key" in Mother 3; therefore, I am removing it from the Trivia section.
