Location of Gisenyi in Rwanda

Gisenyi is a district of Western Province, Rwanda, and also the lake resort town at the district's center. It has a sandy beach on Lake Kivu, which is known for water sports and is home to a brewery. During the Rwandan Genocide, the provisional government was based in the town.
