Giovanni Pellegrino

Giovanni Pellegrino (June 4, 1939, Lecce-) is the president of the Lecce Province in Italy. Lawyer from profession, he was senator of the Republic from 1990 to 2001. He also presided of the Parliamentary Commission on Terrorism concerning the "years of lead," which was created by a 1988 law. As such, he investigated on the 1980 Bologna bombing, etc. He was also of the Elections Council and of Parliamentary Immunity (Giunta elezioni e immunità parlamentari) as well as a member of the Commission on Institutional Reform.

As representant of the Democrats of the Left (DS), he won against Raffaele Baldassare (House of Freedoms, lead by Berlusconi) during the June 2004 elections with 51.8% of the voice, supported by a center-left coalition.
