Gimme Three Steps is a song by southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd released on their 1973 album, Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd. It can often be heard on many classic rock radio stations today. It was written by Allen Collins and Ronnie Van Zant. The song is memorable for its opening riff and story of how the speaker (presumably Ronnie) was dancing with a girl named Linda Lou when Linda's boyfriend caught them and pulled a gun on the unwanted suitor. The song's title refers to the chorus, "Gimme Three Steps/Gimme Three Steps Mister/Gimme Three Steps Towards The Door/Gimme Three Steps and You'll Never See Me No More" essentially asking for three steps to flee.
The album becomes the band's first hit, driven by the success of the single "Freebird", but Gimme Three Steps was never released as a single, thus never charted.[1]
