Gillian McIver, born in Canada, UK-based writer, curator and video artist. After studying history and philosophy, she moved to London where, in 1997, she set up an international underground art collective, known as Luna Nera in the abandoned Colosseum theatre in East London. Since that time she has participated in various projects with Luna Nera, exhibiting in a wide variety of venues in different countries throughout Europe including the UK, Canada, Russia, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland and Italy. She continues to co-ordinate Luna Nera which makes temporary site-specific installations in abandoned buildings. Her own work consists primarily of video installations and photographic images which examine the effects of time on everyday objects, in particular, in the urban wastelands that exist throughout what she calls "post-industrial" Europe. She works with lost fragments, traces of the past, revealing the transitory nature of human existence.
