Giles Penfound

Giles Penfound is best known for his images of Lt Col Tim Collins (Irish Guards) and a Sniper from the Irish Guards in Basra, during Operation Telic in Iraq: 2003.[citation needed]


Giles Penfound has been a professional photographer for more that 15 years. His considerable experience in photojournalism and documentary photography has borne many images that have appeared in Time magazine as well as many major national and international newspapers.[citation needed] In 1999 he was awarded the honour of Press Photographer of the Year buy the British Institute of Professional Photographers, receiving further photographic distinctions in 2003.

Giles studied at Wolverhampton University where he gained a first class honours degree in photography, he has gone on to study for a Masters Degree at the internationally renowned Centre for Documentary Photography, Newport College - University of Wales.

Until recently Giles was the Chief Press Photographer for the British Army.[1] He was recently given exclusive access to photograph HRH Prince William and Prince Harry during their initial officer selection for the British Army.[citation needed]
