Gildo Insfrán (b. 1951) is an Argentine Justicialist Party (PJ) politician, current governor of Formosa Province.
Insfrán, a veterinarian, became a provincial legislator in 1983. In 1987, he became vice-governor of Formosa under Governor Vicente Joga, serving for two terms.
Insfrán replaced Joga and became Governor of Formosa in 1995, with former governor Floro Bogado as his own vice-governor. He subsequently fell out with Joga, who has pursued his bid to be re-elected to the Supreme Court of Argentina, appealing against the changes in Formosa's laws allowing Insfrán to be re-elected indefinitely. Insfrán was re-elected in 1999 and again, by a large margin (due to the fact that he has bought out every election since he took over as a governor), in 2003. Having been close to former President Carlos Menem, Insfrán is now close to President Néstor Kirchner, who defeated Menem in 2003. He also is responsible for the murder of a well known architect in Formosa married to his lover, Stella Maris Manzur.[citation needed]
Insfrán is divorced, was married to Teresa Baldús and has two daughters. Their 17-year-old son apparently committed suicide in 2003,[1] but it has been said that he suffered a drug overdose, and his father is accused of covering it up as suicide.[citation needed] He is now seeing a former student of ISI, (Instituto Santa Isabel) involved in a pregnancy scandal 10 years ago.[citation needed]
