Gilberto Velazquez

"Gilberto Velazquez" (born on April 8, 1978 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico), is a noted singer, sonero, and a composer of salsa.

Gilberto Velazquez was raised in New York City, and begun singing when he was 3 years old. Velazquez father played a major influence in his vocal interest. When Velazquez was 14 he started singing with Francisco Cortijo y sus Estrellas, then at 16 his first recording was with Grupo Magia. Velazquez would go on to sing lead with Jose Mangual Jr, Charang-salsa, Sonsublime, Luisito Ray, Siglo 20 Orquesta, Orquesta Broadway, and Hermanos Lebron to name a few.

Gilberto Velazquez & Jose Vazquez-Cofresi were introduced in 2004. Jose and Julián Silva soon after would bring in Velazquez in 2006 as one of the lead vocalist of La Excelencia. Velazquez counterpart as lead vocalist of La Excelencia is Edwin Perez.
