Sylvester the cat wakes up on Christmas morning. He finds a present for him, but all he gets is a rubber mouse, which displeases him. He hears someone singing in a wrapped birdcage. Sylvester peaks inside and sees Tweety. He then switches the nametags on the presents just as Granny comes in the room. She gives Sylvester the cage. When Granny opens the box and sees the rubber mouse, she goes to tell Sylvester about the mix-up. But, when Granny sees Sylvester spit out Tweety's feathers, she knows what happened. She grabs and wacks Sylvester on the butt until he coughs up Tweety. After scolding him, Granny picks up Tweety, holds a mistletoe over his head and tells Sylvester to kiss him. But, instead Sylvester eats him again, and once again, Granny wacks him on the butt until he coughs up Tweety.
Granny puts Tweety up where Sylvester can't reach him. Sylvester takes a ladder, climbs up to Tweety's cage, opens it, and grabs him. Tweety covinces Sylvester that a huge present at the bottem of the tree is his Christmas present. But, when Sylvester opens it, a huge bulldog pops out and devours him! Granny grabs the dog, wacks him until he coughs up Sylvester, and then throws him out of the house.
Sylvester tries to get Tweety by pulling up his his cage with a toy steam crane, but instead, he pulls up an angry Granny, who then chases Sylvester and wacks him with a broom.
Sylvester then tries to get Tweety by running upstairs, sawing a hole in the ceiling and pulling up his cage with a cane. But Tweety, showing that sometimes he can defend himself, puts a stick of dynamite in his cage and lights it just as Sylvester pulls the cage up. After the explosion, Sylvester puts the ruined cage back, and stumbles down the stairs, black and torn up.
Sylvester tries squaring off against Tweety in a Cowboys/Indians showdown, where he is Geronimo and Tweety's Hopalong Cassidy. Sylvester wins, but before he can eat Tweety, Granny shoots a plunger over his mouth and says "You didn't count on Pocahantas, did you Geronimo".
While Tweety plays on the new train set, Sylvester tries one last time to catch him. He takes some spare train tracks, sets them up, and the puts the train in reverse. The train goes over the new tracks, and towards Sylvester who then devours Tweety, only to be devoured himself by the bulldog who has somehow gotten back in the house. Granny wacks the dog until he coughs up Sylvester, and then she does the same to him until he coughs up Tweety. Granny anounnces she's had enough, and that she'll show Sylvester and the dog there will be peace in the house once and for all.
The cartoon ends with Granny and Tweety singing a variation of the Christmas carol, Hark The Hearld Angels Sing. And on Tweety's right and left are Sylvester and the dog with stamps over their mouths!
