Michiel Antonius Adrianus Beelen (born in Haarlem, on 25th May 1977), better known as Giel, is a Dutch radio-dj. Currently he presents the VARA morningshow GIEL at 3FM from Monday till Friday between 6:00 and 9:00 am. He also has a show called Nachtegiel at Saturday morning between 1:00 and 4:00 am, at the so-called Freaknacht ("Freak night").

[edit] Career

From an early age, Beelen was determined to become a disc jockey. When he was just a little kid, he made himself a lookalike radio station to pretend he was a dj. After starting at a local Haarlem broadcasting company, presenting a show for kids, he soon moved to Radio 10 and later to Radio Noordzee to work as a music technician.

In 1997 Beelen moved to the AVRO at Radio 3FM, where he hosted a show during night time. Thanks to the Dopeshow he made fame as a "shockjock". He often tested drugs, such as alcohol, marihuana and cocaine, on air. He once invited a callgirl to to go down on him, during broadcast.

In 2004, 2005 and 2006 he lived in the House of Glass a week prior to Christmas without anything to eat to collect money for projects supported by the Red Cross in a show called Serious Request.
