Gibbsboro is a Borough in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough population was 2,435.

Gibbsboro was incorporated as a borough by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 8, 1924, from portions of Voorhees Township, based on the results of a referendum held on April 11, 1924.[1]

Gibbsboro is located at 39°50′2″N, 74°58′8″W (39.833847, -74.968996)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 5.8 km² (2.2 mi²). 5.7 km² (2.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (1.79%) is water.

Gibbsboro borders Lindenwold and Voorhees.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 2,435 people, 829 households, and 664 families residing in the borough. The population density was 427.3/km² (1,109.3/mi²). There were 847 housing units at an average density of 148.6/km² (385.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 94.00% White, 2.79% African American, 0.41% Native American, 1.07% Asian, 0.74% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.38% of the population.

There were 829 households out of which 36.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.3% were married couples living together, 9.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.8% were non-families. 16.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size was 3.28.

In the borough the population was spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 26.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.6 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $57,326, and the median income for a family was $63,864. Males had a median income of $43,182 versus $30,807 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $26,035. About 2.4% of families and 4.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.3% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.

The Mayor of Gibbsboro is Edward G. Campbell, III (Independent, term ends December 31, 2007). Members of the Gibbsboro Borough Council are Council President Gerald Bonsall (Independent; 2007), Mitch Brown (Independent; 2007), Jack Croghan (Independent; 2009), Michael MacFerren (Independent; 2009), Anita Mancini (Independent; 2008) and Margie Schieber (Independent; 2008).[4]

Gibbsboro is in the First Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 6th Legislative District.[5]

New Jersey's First Congressional District, covering portions of Burlington County, Camden County and Gloucester County, is represented by Rob Andrews (D, Haddon Heights). New Jersey is represented in the Senate by Frank Lautenberg (D, Cliffside Park) and Bob Menendez (D, Hoboken).

The 6th Legislative District of the New Jersey Legislature is represented in the State Senate by John H. Adler (D, Cherry Hill) and in the Assembly by Louis Greenwald (D, Voorhees) and Pamela Rosen Lampitt (D, Cherry Hill). The Governor of New Jersey is Jon Corzine (D, Hoboken).

Camden County is governed by a seven-member Board of Chosen Freeholders. Camden County's Freeholders are: Louis Cappelli, Jr (Freeholder Director), Edward McDonnell (Freeholder Deputy Director), Riletta L. Cream, Jeffrey L. Nash, Joseph Ripa, Carmen Rodriguez, and Rodney Greco.

Students in pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade attend the Gibbsboro Public School, which serves a total of 299 students.

For grades 9 - 12, students attend the Eastern Camden County Regional High School District, a limited-purpose, public regional school district consisting of Eastern High School and Eastern Intermediate High School. The schools serve a combined population of approximately 37,000 in the communities of Berlin Borough, Gibbsboro and Voorhees Township. The District operates two high schools, Eastern High School with over 1,000 students for grades 11 and 12 and Eastern Intermediate High School with nearly 1,150 students for grades 9 and 10. Both schools are located on the same site, but operate independently. Eastern presently enrolls about 2,131 students at the two high schools.
