Giannis Valinakis is a well-known Greek politician and University Professor

He was born in Athens in 1955. After graduating from the German School of Athens, he studied at the Athens Law School and at the University of Heidelberg (school of political science). Valinakis completed post-graduate studies in international politics, defence policy and international relations at the Sorbonne. He has worked as a researcher at Greek and foreign institutes. In 1992 he was elected professor of international relations at the University of Athens. Valinakis has held a number of posts at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP): assistant director of research, director of research, and general manager of the foundation.

In May 2003, he was appointed New Democracy's out-of-parliament representative on the National Council for Foreign Policy.

Nowadays, Valinakis is appointed Greek Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister and former President of Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy organization. He is married and has a daughter.
