Gian Paolo Gobbo

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gian Paolo Gobbo (Treviso, April 1, 1949) is an Italian venetist politician.

After being a founding member of the Liga Veneta in 1979, he was national president of that party from 1994 to 1998, when he succeeded Fabrizio Comencini as national secretary. He was a member of the Veneto Regional Council from 1990 to 2000, vice-president of the regional government from 1994 to 1995 and member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2004. He rebuilt the Liga Veneta after the split caused by those members, led by Fabrizio Comencini, who contested Umberto Bossi's leadership of the Lega Nord.

In 2003 Gobbo was elected mayor of Treviso, the most leghista town in Italy, and in 2006 he returned to the European Parliament.
