[edit] Plot
The film is about a fictional serial killer Karl Hochman (Marcoux), the "address book killer" who is nearly slain by a head-on collision with a truck. At the emergency room his mind is transferred into a computer due to an electrical storm, due to an electrical surge running through the CAT scan machine he is in. As a network-based entity he plots to continue his killing spree, using the electrical grid, appliances, and the computer network.
He obtains the address book of Terry Munroe (Allen) and begins to go through the list to kill off her friends. (In the film she has a son Josh, played by Wil Horneff.) Aided by computer hacker Bram Walker (Mulkey), however, they manage to fight back and defeat the killer by introducing a computer virus that traps him at a physics laboratory. Hochman is forced to escape, existing in a form similar to the holograms in the Star Trek: The Next Generation holodecks. The heroes then proceed to activate an atom smasher which appears to draw in the killer and destroy him.
[edit] Production
This film was filmed in Cleveland, Ohio in color with Dolby SR sound.
[edit] Reaction
The movie was not generally well received by most critics. Common criticisms were of some sub-par acting and a weak, implausible plot that failed to build suspense.
[edit] Trivia
- Even though the movie was filmed in Cleveland, Ohio the gym at the beginning was filmed in Santa Monica, California.
- Approximately forty minutes into the movie, a computer is scrolling through a list of names in a phone book, in search of its next victim. The names listed are mostly Hollywood producers. Going through the list slowly reveals Caryn Mandab(ach), Wink Martindale, Lorne Michaels (Saturday Night Live), Bill Melendez (Charlie Brown Specials), Neal Marlens (Growing Pains), Thomas L. Miller (Full House), and a host of others.
- The trailer shows the power going out at Fraizer's place, but yet in the actual movie this scene never happens.
[edit] Goof
- At Terry's ATM and on the computer address search, her last name appears as Munroe. On her son's computer info, his name is spelled as Monroe which is what the credits show.
