Ghost Vigil
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A ghost is an alleged non-corporeal manifestation of a dead person (or, rarely, an animal). It is often thought to be a manifestation of the spirit or soul of a person which has remained on Earth after death.
A vigil (from the Latin vigilia, 'wakefulness') is a period of sleeplessness, an occasion for devotional watching or observance.
A GHOST VIGIL is a paranormal investigation technique whereby investigators enter a reportedly haunted location (i.e. a room, a stairway, and attic), and sit quietly waiting and observing for any signs of the manifestation of a ghost or paranormal activity. This is often with the lights off or turned down.
From a paranormal point-of-view, a ghost vigil puts investigators into a paranormally active location and allows them to focus on the moment. Rather than rushing around, taking photographs, shooting video, or taking readings from electronic equipment...the investigators simply sit, wait, and observe. This would theoretically put them in the right frame of mind for perceiving any activity that may occur.
From a skeptical point-of-view, a ghost vigil puts investigators into a psychological situation most likely to trigger their imagination. The place themselves into an atmosphere likely to cause anxiety and fear, and then submit to sensory deprivation by turning down or off the lights. These factors are more likely to produce figments of the imagination and allows the power of suggestion to work more intensely upon their mind.
