[edit] Hello and thank you
Dear Ghaly; Hello (in Coptic we say Nofri) and thank you for your great efforts in spreading the Coptic culture on the pages of Wikipedia. We need to work together to make sure things are correct and presentable. A couple of issues we need to solve include: - When should we use "Coptic" and when should we use "Egyptian"? For example, should we categorize the saints as "Coptic" saints or "Egyptian" saints? Personally I prefer "Egptian" because it is more accurate (for example, all the saints and the martyrs who predate the Arab invasion of Egypt never referred to our nation as "Coptic" because the word "Coptic" is an Arab invention) - In cases such as Fr. Manassa Youhanna, should he be categorized as a theologian or a historian? He wrote in both fields, and I was always under the impression that he was more of a theologian than a historian. Please correct me on this point. Thanks once again, and I am looking forward to more cooperation with you for the sake of the Coptic (or as I would like to say: Egyptian Christian) nation. Your brother; --Lanternix 19:10, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Coptic Popes
Hello; I suggest removing the categorization Category:Coptic Orthodox Church from all Coptic Popes. In my opinion, the categorization as Category:Patriarchs of Alexandria is enough (it falls under Category:Coptic Orthodox Church anyway, so the final result is that the Coptic Popes will be also under Category:Coptic Orthodox Church. I think this makes things a little more organized. What do you think? Thanks. --Lanternix 22:57, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Naguib Al Rehani
Hi,Ghali. Considering this article, you can't just change the name of the article in this way. You have to use the move button so as not to destroy the history of the article. Here what I will do:
- Copy the wikitext of the article Naguib Al Rihani and paste it in Naguib Al Rehani.
- Nominate the page Naguib Al Rihani for speedy deletion.
- After step 2 which takes usually only a few hours, I will move the article Naguib Al Rehani to Naguib Al Rihani.
When all this is done, the article will be named as Naguib Al Rihani and the history will be OK. Thank you. --Meno25 14:46, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- The article was moved correctly to Naguib Al Rihani. Thank you. --Meno25 16:01, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your GA nomination of Copt
The article Copt you nominated as a good article has failed , see Talk:Copt for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of said article. If you oppose this decision, you may ask for a review. Chrisfow 17:04, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Style
Hi there Ghaly. I appreciate your efforts in creating articles about important Egyptians, but there's an issue here. Try to follow the guidelines set in WP:MoS, or at least the basic standards of writing, when you start new articles. Articles should be properly formatted, wikified, and written. Also, an important thing to do is to provide at least one or two sources for every article you start or they might be deleted. Happy editing. :) - Anas Talk? 13:29, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- If you don't have much time to work on articles, you can start one in a subpage of your user page and publish it once it's done. Remember it's quality not quantity that matters. Trust me, once you work on a few articles properly, your proper article writing will drastically improve. I remember when I first edited here, it took me an hour to start this article, but check the article out now. It was voted for deletion before because it contained original research, was biased, and needed clean-up. I can start a proper stub in five minutes now. At least, you can do the basic stuff, i.e. making the subject of the article bold and placed in the lead and using complete sentences (instead of saying "Mohamed. Soccer player. In Ahly", you can say "Mohamed is a soccer player who currently plays for Al-Ahly."), etc. Your articles are making it hard for everyone; some may confuse them for non-notable content and it is getting hard to track your articles and reformat them. All the best. - Anas Talk? 13:13, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- Well, even the articles you pointed out to are not properly formatted. For example, in the Nagui Asaad article, you should not say "Full name;", among other mistakes. You can rewrite the lead as:
-
- Youssef Nagui Asaad (Arabic: ناجي أسعد) (born September 12, 1945) is a former Egyptian athlete who was mainly active in the 1970s and early 1980s in shot put and discus throw.
-
- Now notice how the quality of the prose differs. This is properly formatted and wikified. Your articles need cleanup (I noticed you removed the cleanup tag in the article) and the references need proper formatting and, not to complicate stuff, you'll have to user the cite web template. Seems a bit complicated, eh? It is, but once you get used to it, it wouldn't be. Now, when I said start them in your user page (since you are usually short of time), I meant only start them there, work on them until they are at least of acceptable quality (properly formatted, categorized, wikified, etc.), and then publish it in the main space. This is what I do; see User:Anas Salloum/Drafts/Mahmoud el-Meliguy for an example. I'm sure that any article needs some time for it to be edited by other users, right? Leave a message if you have any further questions. - Anas Talk? 14:03, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

- To tell you the truth, Assia Dagher is, albeit of acceptable quality, one of my worst articles. I suggest using the much better Yehia Chahine article as a model. Also, a quick heads up, you used the same reference twice; you can use a single reference more than once (check Chahine's article). Good luck editing! :) - Anas Talk? 14:44, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summaries
When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. :) - Anas Talk? 14:55, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Names
I don't trust IMDb, at least not always. In the case of el-Meliguy, well, it is more grammatically correct to use "el-" not "El", it's similar to saying "Alexander the Great" and not "Alexander The Great". Always do a little research on the most common and accurate name before starting an article; that's what I do. And by the way, IMDb is not considered a reliable source of information, because much of its information is provided by users. - Anas Talk? 21:32, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Ghaly, how is it going? I have a suggestion for you. Can you start a subpage with a list of the articles you have started? That would help you and anyone who wants to track your articles. Thank you so much for your hard work! - Anas Talk? 09:28, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] DYK suggestion
Hi Ghaly, I noticed the good work on the Nagui Asaad article. Why don't you give it a shot and nominate it in Template talk:Did you know? There are many hooks in the article, like what is mentioned in the achievements section. Just make sure the article is long enough and recently expanded. Have a good day. - Anas Talk? 18:06, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
I have put it as you recommended , thanks .--Ghaly 20:05, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Salah Taher.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Salah Taher.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 10:07, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Bidaya wa Nihaya
I know all that. Besides, except for the infobox, I've probably done all the major noticeable work (see diff). Cheers. - Anas Talk? 15:22, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
