Template:Germanic name
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- This is a Germanic name; the family name is {{{1}}}, not {{{2}}}.
[edit] Usage
This template is for multi-part Germanic surnames that people from other parts of the world could misinterpret as a middle name + surname. Usage example:
{{Germanic name|van den Hoof|Hoof}}
It should be placed at the top of the article, before the article introduction, page-top image or sidebar infobox, but after any page-top templates such as dispute or maintenance tags, disambiguation links/templates. Please port this documentation to other name templates of this sort (Chinese, etc.)
This template can be used for any Germanic name of this sort (Von Krafft, ten Dorn, what have you). It should not be used for non-Germanic names, such as the spelling of Scottish/Irish patronymics with a space (Mac Dougal, nĂ Bhraonain, etc.), Romance language multipart names (Le Fevre, San Giacomo, de Anza, etc.) Use other (if necessary create new) templates for such names, by language or a larger classification, and link to them here and to each other with similar documentation.
