[edit] Punching Power
I think he was the most powerful puncher of all time.
I think that title diserves to go to Ernie Shavers. Ernie hit like a thunderbolt
Who knows. It is impossible to determine. Unless they were to get it measured. And even then, it is impossible to determine with good timing and such
He beat ken norton far worse than Shavers ever hoped to be able to do. He makes Shavers look like a wimp.
It took Cooney 1 round to defeat Ron Lyle. It took Shavers 6 rounds. It took George Foreman 5 rounds.
Ernie Shavers chances of getting a first round KO were: .338 (shown by his 68 KO's, 23 of them being in the first round). Gerry Cooney's were: .375 (shown by his 24 KO's, 9 of them being in the first round).
It would seem to me judging from the ratio above that Cooney hit harder than Shavers.
[edit] Article Assessment
This is at best, a b level article. Although i am proud of myself for doing my history, and discovering more about this man, there is not enough of an article itself to declare it anymore than a mere average/ above average article.
[edit] Videos
Would the members of wikipedia mind if i posted video's of Cooney's youtube boxing matches?
