Germans of Kazakhstan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Germans of Kazakhstan are a significant minority in Kazakhstan, and make up several percent of population. Most of them are descendants of Volga Germans, who were deported into Kazakh SSR (Now Kazakhstan) after World War II.

Large numbers of the Germans of Kazakhstan are urban dwellers. For example, in the capital Astana, they make up about 6% of the population.

Due to the German Right of return (the law of welcoming the descendants of ethnic Germans to settle in Germany) and due to the fact that the economic situation in Germany is much better than it is in Kazakhstan, the population of the Germans of Kazakhstan decreases as many people emigrate to Germany.
