Germans in the Czech Republic

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Germans in the Czech Republic form a minority of the residents in Bohemia, Moravia, and Czech Silesia. There are around 41,200 Germans in the country or around 0.4% of the total population. They are the descendants of the Sudeten Germans who remained behind in Czech Republic, despite the eviction orders. However, neither the Czech Government nor the majority of Germans there still see themselves as Sudeten Germans. After the Second World War, the Czech Germans were under great pressure to adapt to general Czech society; as a result, many members of this group, especially the younger generation, are now completely assimilated.
