The German order of precedence is a symbolic hierarchy of officials in the Government of Germany used to direct protocol. It has no official status, but has been established in practical use.

  1. The President (Bundespräsident), currently Horst Köhler.
  2. The President of Parliament (Bundestagspräsident), currently Norbert Lammert.
  3. The Chancellor (Bundeskanzlerin), currently Angela Merkel.
  4. The President of the Federal Council (Bundesratspräsident), also acting as deputy to the President, currently Harald Ringstorff, Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
  5. The President of the Federal Constitutional Court (Präsident des Bundesverfassungsgerichts), currently Hans-Jürgen Papier.
