German Township is one of fourteen townships of Auglaize County, Ohio. It is in the southwestern part of the county and includes part of the village of New Bremen. German Township contains eighteen square miles and in 2000, it had a population of 3,831, up from 3,400 in 1990. Of those, 929 lived in the unincorporated part of the township, and 2,902 in New Bremen.

The Township is bounded on the north by Saint Marys Township on the west by Franklin Township and Marion Township in Mercer County on the south by Jackson Township; and on the east by Van Buren Township in Shelby County. The parts of the municipality of New Bremen remain in the township.

The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township clerk, who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the clerkship or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.

The majority of the township is in the New Bremen School District with southwestern portions being located the Marion Local School District. The majority of the township is served by the New Bremen (45869) post office. The southeastern section of the township is served by the Minster (45865) post office.
