Gerhardt Thompson is a photographer. Gerhardt is an Australian living on the northern beaches of Sydney. As a photographer he specializes in shooting the human figure and seeks to focus on the sensual aspects of his subjects rather than the erotic traits of the human form. Combining the beauty of the human form with the natural environment is his trademark.
While studying optometry at Sydney University he was intrigued by the impact of light and optics in photography. It is this interest that brought him to the study of fine art nude photography. The way Gerhardt captures light in the camera is influenced by his understanding of light and optics. Gerhardt does not photograph in a studio and prefers the ever changing and unique Australian landscape like those found at a beach, a river bank, rocky outcrops or a bushland setting.
In addition to being published in a number of international art magazines and fine art photography books, Gerhardt's environmental nude photographs are held in galleries and private collections throughout the United States, Europe, Australia and Asia.
