Gerard McCarthy is an Irish actor, best known for playing the role of student Kris Fisher in the Channel 4 soap opera, Hollyoaks
McCarthy's acting career began when he was awarded Kenneth Branagh’s Renaissance Scholarship to train at Laine Theatre Arts, graduating in 2002. He made his professional debut in Perth Repertory Theatre’s production of Carousel before joining the cast of the smash hit West End musical Mamma Mia! (Prince Edward Theatre).
Other theatre credits include On Eagle’s Wing (Odyssey Arena, Belfast); Call Me Lee (New End Theatre, London); Snow Queen (Lyric Theatre, Belfast); The Good Friday Trilogy (Bridewell Theatre, London); T.S. Eliot’s Murder In The Cathedral (St. Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast); Jack & The Beanstalk (Millennium Forum, Derry & Waterfront Hall, Belfast) and the West End revival of Saturday Night Fever (Apollo Victoria Theatre, London). Most recently, he played the title role in the workshop production of Casanova by Vivien Ellis Prize winner Philip Godfrey.
In 2006, after a successful run at Belfast’s Lyric Theatre, he appeared as a guest presenter on Inside Out for BBC 1. He then went on to front RaveOnAir'06 - LIVE before hosting Mobile Bites for Virgin, where his celebrity guests included David Hasselhoff, ex-Hear'Say star Kym Marsh and Britain’s favourite playboy Peter Stringfellow.
McCarthy is also an ambassador for the NSPCC and gave an electric live musical performance with soul legend Sheila Ferguson as part of Children In Need 2006.
He is rumoured to be dating actress Jennifer Biddall, who plays his on-screen love interest Jessica Harris.
