State Route 25 Connector is a rural route through Savannah and Garden City, which begins at U.S. 17/S.R. 404 Spur at the southern end of the Eugene Talmadge Memorial Bridge.
The purpose of S.R. 25 Connector is to bring travelers through downtown Savannah and through the business districts. Before the route existed, routes U.S. 17/S.R. 25 and U.S. 80/S.R. 26 traveled through downtown Savannah, but they were eventually re-routed up Interstate 516. Although S.R. 25 Connector is a connector route, it is more efficient for one to travel from the Talmadge Bridge down Interstate 16 to I-516, where S.R. 25 is cosigned.
There is also a State Route 25 Connector in Brunswick.
[edit] Route intersections
- S.R. 25 Connector begins at the Oglethorpe Avenue exit off of U.S. 17/S.R. 25 Alt/S.R. 404 Spur and the Talmadge Bridge.
- S.R. 25 Connector continues eastward towards Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., where it then takes a left and moves north.
- Upon reaching Bay Street, S.R. 25 Connector then makes another left and continues slightly northwest. Even though the road is technically heading north, the shields label it as the southbound route.
- 1.5 miles down Bay Street, Interstate 516/S.R. 21/S.R. 25 bridges overhead. At this point, Bay Street intersects with W. Lathrop Avenue. On the opposite end, Bay Street is signed as US 80/GA 26. At the intersection, S.R. 25 Connector cosigns with U.S. 80/S.R. 26, turns left, and travels a few hundred feet south down W. Lathrop Avenue until the road ends at Augusta Ave.
- S.R. 25 Connector makes another left turn, continues southeast down Augusta Ave for only a few hundred more feet until the exit onto I-516/S.R. 21/S.R. 25. Having finally reached S.R. 25, the connector route terminates.
