George and the Dragon, (alternative title: Dragon Sword) is a Sci-Fi Channel movie about a knight named George (James Purefoy) who, on his return from the Crusade, embarks on a mission to find Princess Lunna (Piper Perabo), who has been missing for days. Also in search of the princess are the self-important Garth (Patrick Swayze), hoping to eventually marry the princess, and the dreaded El Cabillo (Val Kilmer), who seemingly just wants ransom money. After finding the princess, George and his companions discover that she has found a dragon egg, which they believe holds the last dragon on earth, and they will do whatever it takes to protect it.
This adventure-comedy is loosely based of the legend of Saint George and the Dragon.
Summary (spoiler warning): George returns from the Crusades to discover that Princess Lunna has been missing. After setting out to find her with his two companions, he encounters a dragon's egg in a cave. He attempts to kill the egg, only to be hit on the head by the princess herself with a stick. Lunna tells George that the mother of the egg had gone down to the lake one day and had never returned. George insists that they kill the egg, which may very well contain the last dragon on Earth, but it seems that Lunna is determined to protect the egg- and hatch it. George, therefore, not knowing what to do, takes Lunna and the egg on a cart, attempting to return her to the King. They stop at an abbey, where a cousin of Lunna's is staying as a nun. There they encounter Garth, a suitor of Lunna's. Garth proposes to Lunna, which she refuses. He then developes a plan to force her into marriage. He locks George and his companions in the room they were staying in and kidnaps Lunna, but Lunna's cousin sees them riding by in the middle of mass and lets George out. George and the gang then chase after Garth and Luna, somehow ending up where the egg is. A battle insues, which involves a longtime friend of George's and the King and his army, and the egg hatches. The egg's mother returns, sets the place on fire, George gets stuck in the place with the dragon, pretends to kill it, comes out and is hailed as the "Dragonslayer", upsets Lunna, and then ends up having to chase after her. Garth follows, and they eventually end up at the lake. The dragon eats Garth, and then Lunna realizes that George did not actually kill the dragons. They kiss and make up and live happily ever after.
