George Thomas (soldier)

George Thomas (born Roscrea, Tipperary, c1756, died Barhampur, India, 22 August 1802) was an Irish mercenary who was active in 18th century India. He was known as the Irish Raja.

George Thomas had deserted his ship and took up employement with Indian chieftains. Later on in his life he had raised a band of horsemen and set up a kingdom of his own with its headquarters at Hansi in north India , where he built a fort named after him as "George Ghar".
