George Mallet

Sir William George Mallet GCMG CBE (b. July 24, 1923) is a Saint Lucian politician. Mallet served as the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism in the first post-independence in 1979 of St.Lucia. A member of the United Workers Party (UWP); in his career Mallet also served as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Home Affairs. After retiring from active politics, Mallet served as Governor General between June 1, 1996 and September 17, 1997. He was knighted in 1989. His wife, Lady Beryl Mallet, died August 27, 2003.
