George Liquor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
George Liquor is a cartoon character created by John Kricfalusi (also known as John K.) and is a mascot of sorts for Kricfalusi's company Spümcø. He's a crass, offensive, ultra-patriotic "man's man" that is used for comic relief and to fill authority roles. George is an ultra-patriotic American. He is so conservative that he accuses Republicans of being Communists because they oppose corporal punishment for children. John K has made it clear on numerous occasions that George harbors a deep antipathy for the political left. George has been voiced by Harris Peet and Michael Pataki. George's motto is "it's discipline that begets love".
George was created by Kricfalusi in the late 1970s or early-to-mid 1980s immediately after seeing a building called "George Liquor" (it was supposed to say "George's Liquor").[citation needed] George was later used in The Ren and Stimpy Show.
George was meant to be a main character and the master of Ren and Stimpy that treated Ren and Stimpy like they were in the army. However, executives at Nickelodeon hated Liquor because they, at first, thought his last name was "Lick Her" (indeed, Kricfalusi inserted a graphic spelling out George's name onscreen in order to avoid just such confusion).[citation needed]
George had a major role in only two episodes of Ren and Stimpy, but made brief cameos in other episodes. One of his major appearances was banned from Nickelodeon and wouldn't be seen for years. The unaired episode, "Man's Best Friend", was not shown on television for years because of its violence (it ends with Ren bludgeoning George with an oar). The other did air, 'Dog Show', but only a few times, and only once uncensored (although the closing shot of the episode was used in commercials for the show as well as its commercial indents). Later airings remove all references to George's last name, Liquor (including on-screen showings that clearly show that his surname is not "Lick Her"), and a shot in which the figure of a tail pops up in the back of George's pants. In some airings, he introduces himself as "I'm George -- (sound of a record player's tone arm being dragged across a record) -- American!", the pause presumably being an in-joke reminder of all the controversy about his character's name.
When Kricfalusi was fired, he was given ownership of George Liquor, under the conditions that George could never be a child molester or mass murderer (to which Kricfalusi responded "how many murders does it take for him to be considered a 'mass murderer'?").[citation needed] George has since appeared in comics and internet cartoons with his nephew, Jimmy The Hapless Idiot Boy; Jimmy's numbskull cousins, Slab and Ernie; Jimmy's love interest, Sody Pop; and George and Jimmy's pet dog, Dirty Dog.
John K. recently announced that a direct-to-DVD George Liquor movie is in the works.[citation needed]
[edit] The Goddamn George Liquor Program
The Goddamn George Liquor Program was a flash cartoon created by John Kricfalusi and starring George Liquor. Liquor was spun off to his own web-based cartoon during the days when the Spümcø studio had an online presence.
In 1999, Liquor appeared in the first professionally-produced Flash internet cartoon series. Without the control of a network, it could be as crude and crass as Kricfalusi wanted. It was rumored that it was originally created to be broadcast on TV. Although the Spümcø site is down, the episodes can be found online.[citation needed]
[edit] Jimmy the Hapless Idiot Boy
Jimmy The Hapless Idiot Boy is a cartoon character created and voiced by John Kricfalusi and is the official mascot for Kricfalusi's company Spümcø. He is a lovable, mentally retarded 16-year old boy.He is perhaps best known for appearing in the Spumcø logo at the end of pre-1993 Ren and Stimpy episodes.
Jimmy was going to be the star of a Nicktoon,[citation needed] but Kricfalusi didn't want to lose the rights to Jimmy and instead sold two other characters of his, Ren and Stimpy, to Nickelodeon.
Jimmy has appeared in comics, internet cartoons and even a Björk music video. He often appears with Uncle George Liquor, cousins Slab and Ernie, love interest Sody Pop and pet dog Dirty Dog. Jimmy has also appeared in the television series the Ripping Friends, in which he was created from the combined DNA of all 4 Ripping Friends.
Jimmy's favorite cartoon character is Donald Bastard (an obvious parody of Donald Duck).
