George Howard (Governor of Maryland)

George Howard (November 21, 1789 - August 2, 1846) was the 27th governor of the State of Maryland in the United States from 1831 to 1833. Howard was well known as a fervent anti-Jacksonian during his term in office.

Born in 1789 in Jennings House, the son of Margaret Oswald "Peggy" (Chew) and Governor John Eager Howard. Howard and his wife Prudence (Ridgley) had fourteen children (nine boys and five girls). He died in 1846 at his home, "Waverly" in Woodstock, Maryland, and is buried at Old Saint Paul's Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland.
