George Carlson

George Carlson (born 1958) is a Canadian municipal politician. He is a City Councilor on the Mississauga City Council for Ward 11 in the City of Mississauga.

Councilor George Carlson is a lifetime resident of Mississauga, born in Cooksville in 1958. He is a direct descendant of one of Streetsville’s founders, Henry Rutledge (1800 – 1875) who also served as a municipal Councilor.

George attended local schools and for many years operated several small businesses in the area. He was first elected in 1985 as a local Trustee, a position he held for four terms. In 2000, George was elected Councilor for Ward 6 upon the retirement of Councilor David Culham. He was re-elected in 2003. In 2006, he ran an was elected as councilor in the newly created Ward 11.

During his second term, he chaired the Heritage Advisory Committee, was a director of the Streetsville BIA, a member of the Credit Valley Conservation Authority, the Mississauga Library Board, the Waste Management Committee, Peel Living (Peel Housing) and the Joint Peel-Caledon Accessibility Advisory Committee. George is a member and supporter of many volunteer groups such as the Friends of the Museums Mississauga, Mississauga Garden Council, the Streetsville Historical Society, Peel Children’s Aid Society, The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 139 and the Streetsville Cadet Centre.

As a Councillor and volunteer, George enthusiastically supports many local events such as The Santa Claus Parade, The Bread and Honey Festival, Canada Day and Earth Week tree plantings.

George lives in Mississauga within the boundaries of Ward 11 with his two sons Michael and Andrew.
