George Annas

George J. Annas is the Edward R. Utley Professor of Health Law, Bioethics & Human Rights, Chairman of Department of Health Law, Bioethics & Human Rights, at the Boston University School of Public Health. He holds a degree in economics from Harvard College and law from Harvard Law School and an M.P.H. from the Harvard School of Public Health. He is a widely published national expert in the field of health law, bioethics, and human rights , whose books include The Rights of Patients, "Judging Medicine", Some Choice: Law, Medicine and the Market, and "American Bioethics: Crossing Human Rights and Health Law Boundarie."
Professor Annas is the cofounder of Global Lawyers and Physicians, a transnational professional NGO dedicated to promoting human rights and health. Professor Annas teaches health law and human rights courses in the Boston University School of Public Health, the Boston University School of Law, and the BU Medical School. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Council for Responsible Genetics and the Indigenous Peoples Council on Biocolonialism], as well as a member of the Institute of Medicine.
