George Alan Rekers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dr. George Alan Rekers is an American professor at the University of South Carolina and an ordained minister of the Southern Baptist Convention. He received his Ph.D. in human developmental psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1983 Rekers was on the founding board of the Family Research Council, a non-profit Christian lobbying organization, along with James Dobson and Armand Nicholi Jr. [1]

Dr. Rekers is an outspoken critic of homosexuality and its presumed negative influences on children, and is known for his controversial research casting doubt on the suitability of gay and lesbian couples as parents [2]. As a result of his strong stance against homosexuality and his role as a witness in related civil rights cases, the American Civil Liberties Union has published criticism of both his research methods and his motives [3].
