Georg Meissner (November 19, 1829 – March 30, 1905) was a German anatomist and physiologist who was born in Hannover. He studied medicine in Göttingen, and afterwards was a professor at Basel (1855), Freiburg (1857) and Göttingen (1860).
Meissner was known for his microscopic studies of skin anatomy. He is credited as the discoverer of Meissner's corpuscles, which are mechanoreceptors that are responsible for sensitivity to light touch, as well as Meissner's plexus, which is the plexus submucosus of the alimentary tract.
