Gençay is a small market town in the heart of the Vienne. In the evenings it is quiet and often the only sound to be heard are the towns neon street lamps. This is a place to settle with doctors, pharmacies, supermarkets and all other sorts of shops within walking distance. The locals are friendly and helpful. There is the normal sort of small shops like the bakers, the betting bar, café bar and a new salon de thé. Strangely enough there are 4 hairdressers and not surprisingly 4 estate agents as this area is now becoming sort after by those wishing to buy holiday homes or houses/farmhouses to renovate. If you are thinking of retiring or staying for a short while then this is the place. Peaceful - Quiet - Calming. What more can I say.
