A genset (short for "generator setup") is the term used for a self-contained and dedicated electrical generatation system, usually portable or mounted on a vehicle such as a boat. A genset's dedicated task of generating electricity differentiates it from the peripheral functionality of a generator or alternator component of a propulsion motor.
